**RM5,000 has been channelled from the “emergency medical reserve fund”. Hence, One Hope Charity will only launch a fundraising of RM65,000 for this case.**

Nur Elvina Trisha bt Zulhelmi from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, is currently 1 year old. She was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect where there is a hole in her heart. During the process of closing the hole, her heart's muscles inadvertently pulled on the valve, leading to a valve leakage. While the hole in her heart has reduced from 3.7 millimeters to 2.6 millimeters, this process has caused damage to the heart valve.

Without surgery, her heart valve will continue to deteriorate, ultimately resulting in heart failure. Her new parents are pleading for RM70,000 to cover the cost of the necessary surgery, as her condition has also affected her appetite, causing her weight to drop to only 5kg.

【The girl was born prematurely and spent 87 days in an incubator immediately after birth before being allowed to leave the hospital. However, the complex heart condition has been affecting the child's development】

When the mother was six months pregnant, she went for a prenatal check-up at a clinic, where the doctor conducted a scan and discovered that the fetus had a single umbilical artery (SUA), leading to fetal malnutrition. Additionally, there were suspicions of a heart defect in the fetus. The mother was then referred to the hospital for further prenatal check-ups and delivery.

The original due date was set for November 14, 2022. However, at 34 weeks, the doctor informed them that the baby's weight was only 900 grams. Due to the baby's small size and improper fetal positioning, the doctor decided to perform a scheduled cesarean section. The baby girl was born weighing 1.36 kilograms and was immediately placed in an incubator. She spent 87 days in the incubator until her organs matured enough for her to be discharged.

During her stay in the hospital, doctors discovered that the child had a ventricular septal defect (VSD) and early aortic valve regurgitation (AR) with prolapse. Surgery was required before the condition worsened, but the cost of the surgery amounted to RM70,000, causing great concern for the new parents.

At present, Nur Elvina Trisha is already one year old but weighs only 5.02 kilograms. In addition to malnutrition, she also faces developmental delays. She can only lie on her stomach and cannot sit or crawl independently. Physical therapy has been arranged for her to learn how to crawl. While she can consume solid food and porridge, her appetite is limited, and her weight remains low.

The father, Zulhelmi bin Muhamad Zaini (25 years old), works as a technician with a basic salary of RM2,400, but his income can reach RM4,500 with overtime. The mother, Nurhamimi Syazani bt Mohd Amin (23 years old), was working as a shampoo sales agent before pregnancy but has since stopped working.

As the young couple has recently started their family and is already burdened with monthly housing and car loan payments, the additional financial strain caused by their child's medical condition has left them with no extra funds to cover the cost of surgery. They have turned to One Hope Charity for assistance.

After a thorough review, One Hope Charity has decided to help raise the remaining medical expenses for the patient. The parents have agreed to entrust the fundraising activities to the One Hope Charity, which will also collect the charitable donations.
