"I'm really scared of needles, and I'm especially terrified of bone marrow extraction, but thinking about the many people helping me, cheering me on, I must persevere!"

Poh Yu Heng, a 21-year-old University student residing in Butterworth, Penang, pursuing a degree in marketing, and a sports enthusiast, particularly representing the table tennis school team, has been actively pursuing his studies and enjoying life. However, a sudden health crisis in July last year disrupted all his plans.

Due to his passion for sports and a hearty appetite, Poh Yu Heng experienced sudden fever, chills, loss of appetite, and even jaundiced skin, making him feel something was amiss. Medical tests confirmed that he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). The doctors recommended bone marrow transplantation, requiring medical expenses amounting to RM280,000.

In July last year, 21-year-old university student Poh Yu Heng experienced recurrent fever, chills, and loss of appetite. Blood tests revealed abnormal blood indices and elevated liver indices. Further hospital examinations confirmed that he was suffering from leukemia, leading to a series of chemotherapy treatments. The ultimate goal is to undergo a bone marrow transplant.

Poh Yu Heng shared that the cancer cells initially attacked his liver, causing jaundiced skin, loss of appetite, and fever. After several rounds of chemotherapy, he endured various discomforts, including hair loss, vomiting, and loss of appetite. He faced his fear of injections, blood draws, and bone marrow extractions, persevering through it all. As for bone marrow matching, his 18-year-old sister's marrow did not match. The family initially found two 100% matching donors locally, but one person became unreachable, and the other, who initially agreed to donate, later refused, causing deep despair for Poh Yu Heng.

Currently, doctors are actively seeking a matching bone marrow donor, and they expect to find one by March for the bone marrow transplant.

Poh Yu Heng, a 21-year-old marketing student in his second semester, has temporarily suspended his studies for treatment. His father, Poh Huck Chin (50 years old), runs a small business making keys, and his mother, Chew Yern Sun (49 years old), works as an assistant in a eatery. Despite their divorce, they share the responsibility of raising their children. Unable to bear the hefty medical expenses, they turn to the foundation for help. After a home visit and assessment, the foundation has decided to assist them in raising RM280,000, covering the costs of bone marrow matching and the pre- and post-transplant medical expenses.

The family has agreed to entrust the fundraising activities to the One Hope Charity, which will also handle the collection of donations. One Hope Charity will allocate RM 10,000 from the "Emergency Medical Reserve Fund" for this case.
