“My child, Aizatul Syarha Afeera, who is 8 months old, almost left us due to oxygen deficiency. Fortunately, she survived after emergency treatment in the hospital, where doctors recommended prompt surgery to repair her heart defect. Please help save my child!”

Aizatul Syarha Afeera Binti Azawazir, an 8-month-old baby girl from Permatang Pauh, Penang, was born without complications. The family joyfully welcomed the arrival of their newborn. However, when the baby was one month old, she was taken to the doctor due to a cold and cough. During the examination at the general hospital, doctors noticed a depression in her diaphragm when she cried and changed her breath. Further tests confirmed that she had congenital heart disease.

The child experienced oxygen deficiency and cyanosis, leading to four hospitalizations. Doctors urgently advised that surgery is needed as soon as possible; otherwise, the child's life would be at risk. The desperate parents are seeking assistance for the RM70,000 surgery cost.

【Within the past 6 months, the child has been admitted to the hospital four times due to asthma caused by oxygen deficiency. Each hospitalization lasts 2 to 4 weeks, requiring reliance on oxygen assistance】

During Aizatul Syarha Afeera's prenatal period, her mother suffered from gestational diabetes and hypertension. Despite regular prenatal check-ups, including routine clinic visits, no abnormalities were detected in the fetus, and the child was born naturally at full term on May 25, 2023, weighing 3.1 kilograms.

The infant showed no abnormalities at birth, but two weeks later, she was taken to the hospital due to a cold and cough. During this time, a bacterial lung infection occurred, and doctors discovered an indentation in the abdomen when the baby cried deeply. She was promptly referred to the central hospital for examination, revealing a large hole in the heart measuring 5.1mm, along with two smaller holes, confirming the diagnosis of Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).

Due to the heart defect, the baby is prone to bacterial infections, frequently requiring hospitalization for lung infections and heart failure. The hospital stays range from 2 to 4 weeks, putting significant strain on the parents, who are impoverished. Doctors recommend urgent surgery and have referred the case to a specialized hospital. However, the high surgery cost of RM70,000 leaves the financially struggling couple in despair.

"The child currently experiences rapid breathing, coupled with frequent bacterial infections resulting in phlegm. The diaphragm also exhibits irregularities during breathing. Without surgery, the child may suffer from cyanosis due to lack of oxygen and cannot survive. We are terrified of losing her. Our greatest hope is for her to grow up safely and healthy, just like any other child. Please help us."

The father, Azawazir bin Ahmad (41 years old), is a civil servant earning RM2,385, while the mother, Maizatul Akmam bt Abdullah (40 years old), works as a contractual religious teacher, earning RM1,300. The couple has two other children aged 4 and 3. The elder brother has a small hole in the heart of about 3mm, requiring medication and biannual hospital check-ups.

After a home visit and verification, One Hope Charity has decided to raise the necessary medical funds for the baby. The parents have agreed to entrust the fundraising activities to the One Hope Charity & Welfare and will also contribute RM5,000 from the "Emergency Medical Reserve Fund".
