“Thank you for not giving up our baby Ping Ann. With your donations, prayers and encouragement, Ping Ann will definitely pass through this stage safely.”

Teh Ping Ann from Bukit Mertajam in Penang was born on 2 March 2021, and now, when she celebrates her 1st birthday, the RM800,000 medical expenses she needed have been successfully raised. This is the most meaningful gift – the gift of life for her. We pray that she can overcome this life challenge and undergo a successful bone marrow transplant.

One-year-old girl Ping Ann suffered a cerebral haemorrhage on the second day of the Chinese New Year (2 February). The doctor urgently performed emergency craniotomy to remove the blood clots to save her life. She was unconscious for more than a week, and was put under observation in the intensive care unit (ICU) for 17 days. Her condition was finally stabled and she was transferred to the isolation ward on 19 February for a series of treatments. It is expected that the bone marrow transplant will be carried out on 11 March.

Since birth, Ping Ann’s one-year journey was never easy. After she was born, she needed to go to the hospital for weekly blood transfusions. As blood vessels could not be found for the blood transfusions, the doctor performed a surgery to install a stoma for her. Her journey to get treatments was not smooth either. The doctor suggested her to undergo bone marrow transplant, but she needed to be referred to a hospital in Singapore for treatment.

One Hope Charity launched a fundraising to raise RM700,000 in medical expenses for her last December. However, due to the unexpected condition, the fund was no longer sufficient to cover the cost of bone marrow transplantation. She needed an additional of S$250,000 (equivalent to about RM800,000). Her parents did not want to give up and lose their only child, hence, they approached One Hope Charity for help again.

After learning that One Hope Charity agreed to help Ping Ann, as well as to launch another fundraising, the father choked up as One Hope Charity provided them with mental and financial support when they were helpless. They knew that they could not return the favor, and they could only hope that the child can be saved. They also promised to bring their child back to Penang to thank One Hope Charity and all the well-wishers for helping them.
