Ter family has 2 daughters who are currently in puberty suffers from Scoliosis where the elder sister, 15, suffers from 57-degree Scoliosis while the younger sister, 13, suffers from 93-degree Scoliosis.
Scoliosis has caused them to look odd and also affecting their growth.
Both of them are in need of RM103,000.00 for surgery and hoping that the generous public can lend a helping hand.
The sisters are from Kuala Terengganu. Ter Chin Hway who is the elder sister and Ter Chin Xian who is the younger sister was found to have Scoliosis’s symptoms last year in their school’s general health checkup.
After that, they were referred to hospital for further checkups.
Last year in May when they went for checkup in Terengganu Government Hospital, both of their bends were not more than 40-degree. When they went for checkup on December, the elder sister’s curve has worsened (41
degree) while the younger sister’s curve is (44 degree).
Due to financial restriction, the were only able to send one daughter for physiotherapy to reduce the deterioration. Seeing that their younger daughter’s spine condition is worsening, their family brought her to Universiti Hospital for checkup. The report shows that she suffers from 93-degree scoliosis and her condition is serious. Surgery is needed soonest possible.
As the family is unable to bear the surgery fee, the came forward to seek help from One Hope Charity. When the parents brought Chin Xian to apply for assistance, Chin Hway came along. Chin Hway’s spine condition is curved too. As a result, One Hope Charity arranged the Chin Hway for checkup and doctor diagnosed her with 57-degree Scoliosis.
Doctors suggested the two sisters to go for surgery soonest possible as they are currently in puberty stage and it may affect their lungs and heart functions.
Their father, Ter Choon Hw, 46, is a shopkeeper in a hardware shop who draws a monthly salary of RM4,000. Their mother, Yee Lay Peng, 44, is a housewife. They have 4 children and both sisters have one 16 years old elder brother and one 12 years old younger brother. All children are still schooling.
Both sister’s shoulders’ height is different, and their right shoulder blade is bulging up. Their pelvic is also affected and Scoliosis has already affecting their lungs and heart function. This has also caused them mental stress.
The family hope that the generous public can lend a helping hand and help them to stand straight again.
The family aggress to allow One Hope Charity & Welfare Berhad to take charge of the fundraising of the sisters’ surgery fee and at the same time accumulating donations from the public.
