The parents were excited to welcome their baby girl. Unexpectedly, she was sent to the intensive care unit (ICU) two hours after she was born as she was suspected to have inhaled meconium. The sudden drop in her blood oxygen revealed that there was a hole in her heart, as well as transposition of great arteries. She needs to undergo a surgery before she is three weeks old, otherwise, her life may be in danger.

Baby Afya Husna Binti Amerul Haqim is currently being treated alone in the intensive care unit. Due to the pandemic, her parents are not allowed to visit their baby girl in the hospital frequently. On the one hand, the parents are worried about their daughter’s condition, and on the other hand, they are worried about the RM95,000 surgical fee she needs.

At the beginning, the father did not want to make his wife, who was just gave birth anxious and chose to bear the pressure alone. He choked up many times when he talked about his daughter, and finally, he had no choice but to tell his wife the truth. The couple begged the public for assistance so that their daughter can be saved.

When the 29-year-old mother Nur Azylla Binti Ahmad went for obstetric examinations, everything seemed to be normal. On 14 January, her amniotic fluid suddenly burst and she was rushed to the hospital. After the baby girl was born, she was suspected to have inhaled meconium and was rushed to the intensive care unit.

When the doctor was doing the examinations, there was a sudden drop in the baby girl’s blood oxygen, and the results showed that the baby girl suffers from heart problems. She was referred to Penang Hospital for a detailed examination and the report showed that the newborn girl has a very complex congenital heart disease, namely transposition of great arteries (TGA), ventricular septal defect (VSD), atrial septal defect (ASD/PFO) and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). She requires a high risk life-saving surgery at around three weeks old and she is unlikely to survive without the surgery. The baby girl’s condition is critical and she needs to undergo the surgery in a specialist hospital. However, her parents are worried about the huge about of surgical fee amounting to RM95,000.

Her 29-year-old father Amerul Haqim Bin Zainol works as a technician in the Syarikat Air Darul Aman (SADA) with a basic salary of RM1,540. Her 29-year-old mother Nur Azylla Binti Ahmad is a clerk earning RM1,200 a month. They have another three-year-old child.

The baby is currently ventilated in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the Alor Setar Hospital and there may be emergencies at any time. After reviewing the required information, One Hope Charity approved the application and decided to help the baby girl in raising the RM95,000 in surgical fee.
