If she doesn’t undergo surgery, she may not be able to see the morning sun, or she may even be paralysed for life. A stroked woman urgently seeking RM55,000 for surgery!

49-year-old Qiu Xiu Jun suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea due to food poisoning. She sought medical treatment the next day but suddenly had trouble speaking, and half her body could not move at the clinic. The doctor called an ambulance to send her to the hospital after examination, and she was diagnosed with cerebral vascular obstruction. The doctor injected medication but could not clear the blood stasis, so the doctor quickly referred her to a specialist hospital for an endovascular thrombectomy to save her life.

Xiu Jun and her 56-year-old partner Chang Sek Moon @ Thung Sek Moon stayed in Bukit Mertajam. They are hawkers selling biscuits and titbits. Their income is only enough to meet their living expenses, and they cannot pay her medical expenses. Hence, they seek help from One Hope Charity.

Xiu Jun was weak due to vomiting and diarrhoea. She went to a nearby clinic the next day to see a doctor. At that time, she could still get off the car and walk into the clinic on her own.

Unexpectedly, when it was her turn to see the doctor, the nurse called her name, but she could not speak or move the right side of her body. The doctor in the clinic conducted a preliminary examination and quickly called an ambulance to send her to the hospital. The hospital’s doctor confirmed that she had a stroke. She was transferred to a specialist hospital within the golden window for life-saving surgery because the medication was not working.

Xiu Jun divorced her husband many years ago due to domestic violence. She and her current boyfriend are divorcees. They have been together for over 15 years. They sell biscuits, Chinese New Year snacks and titbits in the market. They start their business at 5 am and go home to rest around noon daily. Xiu Jun is also very good at making Muruku, which she will sell occasionally. The couple earns about RM2,000 a month.

Sek Moon said that Xiu Jun did not have any illness before this, and she did not go for regular physical check-ups as Xiu Jun was domestically abused by her ex-husband many years ago. He grabbed her head and slammed it to the wall. Therefore, Sek Moon suspected that the blood stasis and blockage of blood vessels might be the sequelae of the domestic abuse.

The couple could not afford the surgical expenses, so Sek Moon approached One Hope Charity for help. After having an emergency review of the case, One Hope Charity decided to assist Xiu Jun in raising the required RM55,000. Her family members agreed to fully authorise One Hope Charity to take charge of the fundraising and collect donations from the well-wishers on their behalf.
